I forgot to mention in my last post that Roswell Merrill died at waterloo, iowa

His family had lived at La Porte City after he died.
Wondering how to connect with some of the family perhaps the Hutchison Smith descendants

I have an old ribbon that says, Sons of the Union Veterans, Cherokee, Iowa on it. I was told it was my great, grandfathers. He settled in Wisner, Nebraska but would have spent time in Iowa coming from New York in the mid 1800's. Can anyone tell me if there was a chapter of the Son's of the Union Veteran's and if so who should I contact for info?
