I am looking for info. on a blind uncle William Maxwell Jr "Billy"sent to Oregon abt. 1930 age 15. His SSI record says benefits collected in Gresham, Happy Valley, Portland. Are there institutions for blind/handicapped etc in your city where he might have lived? Thanks for your time. lsmaxwellathotmaildotcom

If he served in the military (not blind at birth) he might have been in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Roseburg. They have living quarters there for permanently disabled military personal.
The closest hospitals in Douglas county are in Roseburg; Douglas Community (closed several years ago), and Mercy which opened shortly before Douglas Community closed. Those hospitals are south of us.
Yoncalla has an active historial society. They may be able to give you more information about this area during that time period with their research.
Good luck on your search! Millpond
